Siobhan McLaughlin - Our next Dye Garden Social Workshop host

October 28, 2025

For our tenth Dye Garden Social, (and last for our 2025 growing season) we've invited artist Siobhan McLaughlin to lead a hands-on workshop from Sculpture House exploring the art and alchemy of creating natural pigments from the earth.

Siobhan is an artist and freelance curator based between Glasgow and Penzance. Working with remnant textiles and gathered earth pigments, her practice connects experiences of the landscape layered with memories and connections to people, the body, and time. Exploring themes of place and sustainability through printmaking, painting and installation, she considers how past activities leave impressions on our ecologies.
Siobhan’s previous workshops include exploring earth pigments at St Andrews Botanic Gardens, materials landscapes at The Stitchery, nature connection in Argyll & Bute Council schools, and as a lead artist for all things creative at weekly Creative Hangouts workshops.

Siobhan graduated with First Class MA Hons in Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art in 2019 and has since been awarded a RSA Residencies for Scotland Award, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Award, Stephen Palmer Travel Award to Orkney and a VAS Cornwall Exchange Residency. Recent exhibitions include Five Sisters at A Place Gallery, Glasgow (solo); The British Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery, London; Art in a Time of Urgency, Grizedale Forest; Pilgrimages, Hweg, Penzance (solo) and Elemental, The Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh.

Alongside exhibiting regularly, McLaughlin’s curatorial practice has created opportunities for sharing and opening up both private collections and emerging artists practices to the public. In 2022 she curated a major centenary retrospective exhibition, Alan Davie: Beginning of a Far-off World, at Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh, and in 2023, Scottish Landscapes: A New Generation was a reevaluation of the landscape genre by interdisciplinary Scottish contemporary artists.
