Workshop Assistant Sculpture House Dye Garden

Are you a new or early career artist/designer (within three years post-graduation) with a passion for natural dyes, textiles, and community creativity? We are looking for a self-employed Workshop Assistant to join our exciting project that supports community health, wellbeing, and local education through land-based creative activities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Community Engagement: Assist with fortnightly Ferguslie Dye Gardeners sessions where you’ll support a diverse group (including participants with mental health requirements) in creative gardening and dye projects
  • Educational Outreach: Help deliver dynamic workshops for local primary schools in May/June and September/October (dates TBC) that explore growing, sustainability, and textile creativity

About you:

  • You are a new or early career artist or designer (with less than three years experience since graduating or equivalent)
  • You have an interest in natural dyes, dye plants and textiles
  • You are punctual and reliable
  • You have good initiative and strong communication skills
  • You have a willingness to learn and are able to follow instructions
  • You are prepared to work in all weather conditions as both indoors and outdoors work is required
  • You are happy to assist with physical tasks (e.g. moving soil, lifting equipment)
  • You enjoy working with groups of mixed abilities and needs

Details and Requirements:

  • Location: Sculpture House Dye Garden, Ferguslie Park, Paisley
  • Hours and Rate: Ferguslie Dye Gardeners session 3.5 hours every fortnight commencing Tuesday 25th March (and on every alternate Tuesday from 9.30am-1.00pm until October 2026) at SAU rate of £113.20 per session
  • Additional schools workshops on 3 Thursdays in May/June 2025/6 and on 3 Thursdays in September/October 2025/6 (dates to be confirmed)
  • Contract: Freelance. You must be registered as self-employed and have your own public liability insurance
  • Notice Period: A minimum of two weeks’ written notice is required by either party to terminate the agreement.
  • A valid PVG certificate is required (we will cover the cost of this)
