Making Earth Pigments: A Hands-On Workshop with Siobhan McLaughlin

Join artist Siobhan for an immersive workshop that explores the art and alchemy of creating natural pigments from the earth. The session begins with an artist talk introducing Siobhan’s creative practice and her connection to the land as a source of colour and inspiration.

Participants will then learn practical techniques for:

- Gathering and identifying different types of earth pigments

- Methods for grinding earth and preparing natural paints

- The Interaction and differences in effect between medium and natural pigments in painting

This workshop combines artistic exploration, ecological awareness, and hands-on experimentation — welcoming artists, designers, creatives, and anyone inspired by or interested in the natural world.

Each participant will come away with their own simple version of a colour chart created from earth pigments made during the session.

Participants are invited to bring along samples of earth to make pigments from if they like but this is not compulsory.
