Openaries is one of the events at this year's Glasgow International festival and takes place at three different locations on three different dates during the festival. It's hosted by artists Laura Aldridge and Anna Mayer who have built a portable ceramics kiln that will be used to fire objects offered by local artists or practitioners.
For this event we asked Laura and Anna if we could make them both a piece of protective clothing to be worn during the firings and this is what we came up with...
After sketching out a rough design and working out the sizes of the intended aprons, we did a bit of free-style screen printing using a range of colours for what would become the 'drop' shape at the front...
As the design was a one-off, we used paper stencils to create our second screen printed design...
Firstly adding the blue layer...
And then the fluorescent pink...
Then adding a touch of love on the back for each of them...
After a bit of stitching and binding of the edges...
We had two finished aprons!
