Laura Spring for Small Is Beautiful

June 06, 2014

Small is beautiful was an amazing two day conference that was held in Glasgow on the 4th June and 5th June by  Deborah Keogh and Roanne Dodds with the aim of providing 'insight, intelligence and ideas about how to thrive as a committed micro'.

As a micro business ourselves we were delighted to be asked to design and print a bag for the conference and set about creating a design that celebrated some of the thinking of the man who provided the inspiration for the event, E.F. Schumacher.

Schumacher’s book ‘small is beautiful: a study of economics as if people mattered’ was first published in 1976 and it was whilst reading a copy to begin my research, something in the preface of the 1989 edition caught my attention. Apparently Schumacher told the author writing this preface that every man should plant a tree every year for five years. I loved the idea behind this advice about trees being so crucial to all of us and this is something that everyone and anyone can do and will make a difference. Small actions can have great and positive outcomes…

The conference was a really great event with speakers such as Patricia Van Den Akker from The Design Trust, Neil Maguire and Jocelyn Glei all offering inspirational and thought provoking presentations.

Anyway, we hope you like the bag design! Here's some shots of it being printed in our studio...
