Arteles Residency - Week Four

September 03, 2015

Tampere is the nearest large town to Arteles and also home to Muumilaakso - Moomin Valley, a museum dedicated to the works of Tove Jansson. Although small in size, it didn't disappoint as her drawings are incredible and my personal highlight of the exhibition. No photos are allowed in the museum, so there was only opportunity to snap my souvenirs and happy face outside the entrance...

This week's packaging find were these marmalade sweets called 'Rowan', after the tree apparently. The fox image is used because it refers to the Aesop's fable about 'the fox and the grapes'. As grapes growing on vines aren't common in Finland, it is altered to refer to rowan berries - hence the link between foxes and rowan trees here:
As it was my last week, it seemed necessary to spend more time exploring the landscape around me before my departure as it is quite breathtaking in it's beauty...
I think the highlight of nature's beauty was our incredible surprise encounter with the Northern Lights last Friday night...I have never seen them before and it's hard to put into words what seeing something like that makes you feel, but here's a time lapse of what we were lucky enough to witness:

It feels only right to make my last image image of this post of something colourful and inspirational that was at Arteles - these barn doors made me smile everyday...
Thank you to Finland, Arteles, Creative Scotland and all the amazing people that I met here...looking forward to next year's collection already!
