Arteles Residency - Week Two

August 18, 2015

As a lover of collecting things for inspiration, I decided to take time out the studio this week and take in the local delights of Hämeenkyrö, the nearest town to Arteles with a selection of secondhand shops and flea markets. I wasn't disappointed and managed to find a selection of blue objects (I'm aways drawn to blues) that included these amazing patterned Arabia cups...
They also have a local recycling centre where people can come and donate items and others take them away for free! The pattern on this dress immediately caught my eye and came home with me...
Of course, the Moomins are big here and I'm looking forward to visiting Muumilaakso in the next week, but it seems they also have good mantras!
It seemed taking time out was good for my work as I started to create a bit of an experimental wall collage inspired by shapes of patterns I've seen since being here...
The end of the week resulted in a trip to the beautiful Helsinki, but I'll save that for a separate post - meanwhile, I'm back here in the beautiful Finnish countryside...
*This residency was made possible with the generous financial support of Creative Scotland's Open Project Funding.
