September Roundup

October 04, 2014

September has been a busy month at Laura Spring - from jetting off to the infamous international design show Maison & Objet in Paris to showing our newest collections at designjunction as part of the London Design Festival and more. So we thought we'd share some of the highlights with you all.

Maison & Objet, situated at Paris Nord Villepoint, boasts a huge range of makers and designers twice a year with shows in January and September. We were lucky enough to visit the show and explore as many designers and makers we could in the time we were there!

Hall 8 (Now! Design a Vivre) was the stand out hall for us, showcasing a variety of innovative work from designers Tom Dixon (Winner of Maison & Objet’s Designer of the Year 2014), Tori Murphy, Donna Wilson, Korean Craft and Design Collective, Normann Copenhagen and more.

Of course, we had to pick up a few souvenirs of our own! We particularly loved the SUD stall with their tactile, bright ceramics which are handmade in Argentina. The avocado dishes were a particular favourite, and we took home our very own orange one.

Not long after returning from the beautiful city of Paris we were off again to exhibit at designjunction in London. Part of the London Design Festival, designjunction takes over a centrally-located 1960s Sorting Office on bustling New Oxford Street. We had a fantastic response to our new Grid and Compass Collections as well as our new Arrow Book Bags, and an all round fantastic time at the show. A big thanks to everyone who came to visit our stand. We were delighted to be exhibiting alongside jeweller Eleanor Bolton, leather accessories designer M. Hulot , one of our favourites Tom Pigeon and the unique Not Another Bill amongst others.

And last but not least, at the very end of the month we ventured a bit closer to home to Edinburgh for the Craft Scotland Conference curated by ceramicist Katy West

Here we were invited to host a 'sampling patterns' workshop, getting small groups to work together to create a series of four screen printed samples. Below you can see one of the amazing samples that was created in the session...

This was followed by our participation in a panel discussion with James Rigler, Alistair Dearie, Joanne Garner and Method Studio, chaired by Jennifer Gray.

A busy but inspiring month...thanks to everyone who made it this way.
